Nevertheless the cemetery was already in use during the First World War, the final construction only dates from 1920. In addition to the graves of mostly Belgian and seven French soldiers who died in the First World War, this cemetery has become the final resting place of 21 British soldiers killed during the Second World War. In 1968, the cemetery was cleared, and the deceased were transferred to the cemeteries of Hoogstade and Westvleteren. The remains of the British and Canadian soldiers, however, were moved tot the British military cemetery of Adegem.
